Overview Beelgara is located in the village of Beelbangera, just outside the town of Griffith in the heart of New South Wales' Riverina district. It is approximately 550 kilometres southwest of Sydney. While Beelgara has a rich resource in quality fruit from the Riverina, we source cool climate parcels of wine from across Australia, including Clare, Adelaide Hills, Coonawarra and Yarra Valley to build a truly Australian offering across its premium wine regions. Beelgara's wines range from affordable to premium price points. What is now the Beelgara winery dates back to 1930, when it was originally built and owned by the Rossetto family. The winery changed hands in 2001 with the investment of the Toohey family and local growers, and the brand name ‘Beelgara' was born. It is based on a shortening of Beelbangera - the name of the local town. Rod Hooper heads the winemaking team and is well known as an award winning wine maker, previously holding senior positions at Penfolds, Charles Sturt University, Goundrey and Hardys. The appointment of Rod as Chief Winemaker in 2006 has resulted in further development of quality wine in our cellar. Significant investment has been made in winery technology including modern jacket cooled stainless steel fermenters, must chillers, a 100 tonne bag press, a micro oxidation unit, a New Age floatation filtration system - all designed to protect the fruit characters of our premium grape varieties. In Vintage 2009, Beelgara crushed 9,000 tonne of premium grapes. Beelgara wines are widely available in our home market of Australia and throughout Europe and Asia. Beelgara is currently ranked as Australia's 20th largest exporter (www.winetitles.com.au 2008 figures) |
